In February 2026, Niki Choo, the expedition paddler in the documentary 1,000 Miles To Tuk, was killed in an avalanche in California’s Sierra Nevada. The tragedy sheds a particular poignance on the film, given Choo’s tenacity and dedication to completing the difficult but incredible journey from the Pacific Ocean to the Arctic Ocean. The Paddling Film Festival team extends our condolences to Choo’s family and friends.
